Biggest 2019 Sporting Events Happening In Tauranga

The Tauranga Plunket Fun Run 2019

The Tauranga Plunket Fun Run is a charity run event that sees hundreds of runners run or walk for a distance of over 24 kilometres to raise money for various charitable causes. The race features different categories’ of races designed to cater to different groups. These include a 3 kilometres section that is ideal for beginners, families with children and those with prams and buggies. This category is the easiest in the race. You can also register for the 6km which is ideal for beginners looking for a little more challenge and also good for older children. The longest category is the 24 kilometre run that is good for experienced runners. The 24 kilometre category allows for relay runs, meaning that families can team together to do sections of the 24 kilometre run and ‘relay’ to the finish line. The Tauranga Plunket Fun Run will take place at the Kopurereua Valley on the 28th of April and is organised by the Royal New Zealand Plunket Trust.

Heart and Sole Run Series

Heart and sole run events are a series of running events that take place across the year. Participation in the events is limited to women of 18 years and above and no pets or prams are allowed. The race features several categories namely a 2.5 km section, a 5km section, and a 7.5 km section. These sections are designed to be both achievable and challenging at the same time. The heart and sole run series will take place at Kulim Park and details about the days and months can be found at the organiser’s website.

North Island Midget Championship

The North Island Midget Motorsport championships will run on the 6th of April between 6.30 pm and 10.30 pm. The event is open to people of all ages and will feature races by the following types of motor vehicles:

  • Stock Cars
  • Saloons
  • Mini Stocks
  • Sprint Cars

This is a great event for motorsport enthusiasts looking for a fun and family-friendly event in the Tauranga area. The motorsport event is organised by Baypark Family Speedway and tickets are available for sale on the organiser’s website.

The BASH – Wheelchair Rugby

The BASH wheelchair rugby event features teams of competitors in wheelchairs competing in a game of indoor rugby. The event is slated to run on 30th to the 31st of March 2019 and various wheelchair teams are expected to compete. The event is a fun family session and admission is free. BASH wheelchair rugby is organised by Bay of Plenty Wheelchair Rugby & Parafed Bay of Plenty working together with the New Zealand Wheelchair Rugby Association.

Open Skate Sessions

Open Skate Session is an event that brings together skaters at different levels for a fun time together. For those just beginning to learn how to skate, the organisers will have coaches at hand to help you get a grip on things and eventually begin to enjoy yourself as much as everyone else. The event will take place over several sessions spanning the month of April and admission is free. If you don’t have gear or skates, some will be made available to you on site for a small fee.

Super Hero Walk

The superhero walk is a charity sports event that is designed to remember and celebrate heroes in your life. Whether the hero in your life is your parent, grandparent or even your friend, come for this fun charity walk designed to raise money for the Waipuna Hospice to fund critical services provided there. You can sign up to participate in this event as an individual, as a corporate or a group of friends. The Waipuna Hospice Super Hero Walk will take place on the 31st of March 2019 at Coronation Park and is organised by the Waipuna Hospice.

Mount Runners & Walkers Half Marathon

This is a half marathon walk and run that brings together both professional and beginners in a fun and scenic event. The run will have different categories to cater to runners at different levels. There will be the 21 kilometres half marathon, the 10 kilometre race and the 5 kilometres run for beginners. Kids will have their own special event dubbed the Kids’ Dash. Regardless of the category you choose, the routes will take you along Marine Parade and Main Beach, guaranteeing you great views all along. This marathon event has been running for the last 33 years and is organised by the Mt. Runners and Walkers Association. It is slated to take place on the 2nd of June between 8 am and 12 pm.

PWE Battle At The Bay

PWE Battle At The Bay is a wrestling event that promises great fun and sporting action for the entire family. Battle At The Bay brings together some of the best wrestlers in New Zealand to compete against each other. Tickets are available online at Eventfinda or can be purchased at the door. Only cash will be accepted at the ticketing booth and so ensure that you carry some to be able to purchase entry tickets. The PWE Battle At The Bay event is organised by Professional Wrestling Entertainment and this will be the first PWE event organised in Tauranga in 2019. The show will take place on the 6th of April and wrestling matches are expected to start at 6.30 pm to 8.30 pm.
